Back in our courting days, many a Saturday afternoon we spent mixing cocktails.
Some folks spend their time productively with actual hobbies and volunteer work. They go hiking or skiing. They do crafts or knit. They clear the snow from the driveways of their elderly neighbours. We pretend to be bartenders.
This was probably the one time in my life that I’ve been ahead of a trend. Tequila Sunrise, Harvey Wallbanger, Manhattan, Sidecar…we made (and drank) most of the classic 1960’s and 70’s cocktails. All pre-Mad Men.
One day we spotted Hurricane glasses, so we had to add those to our collection of boozy paraphernalia. Did you know that the Hurricane is a stealth drink? You have one and it pretends to be all fruity and friendly. But then it sneaks around the corner and when you stand up, aiming for the kitchen, you remember, with a sense of alarm, that the formula uses six ounces of alcohol. Per drink….
